Marking the first Evensong by Cathedral School Girl Choristers

On March 26th, 1996, the Cathedral School Girl Choristers sang their first Evensong in Llandaff Cathedral.  To celebrate the twenty-first anniversary of this service, a special Evensong was held in the Cathedral on Wednesday 22nd March. The present Girl Choristers, the Choral Scholars, were joined by ex-girl choristers for Evensong. To add to the nostalgia, the choir was conducted by three former Master of the Girl Choristers! It was a delight to welcome back Mr John York-Skinner, Mr Simon Lovell-Jones and Mr Lindsay Gray. The girls were thrilled to work with these former conductors and enjoyed gaining a glimpse of their different approaches to choral technique.  The service included a first performance of an anthem commissioned by the present Director of the Choral Scholars. This was composed by Mr Lindsay Gray, using the text "God gives us light upon our way" by the famous hymn writer, Bishop Timothy Dudley-Smith.

The Choral Scholars, former Directors and former Choristers joined with the Head at a reception held in the Sixth Form Centre following the service.  It is hoped to continue such celebrations in future years, remembering the dedication and service of past choristers and celebrating the on-going commitment and enthusiasm of the present Choral Scholars.
