Girl Choristers & Chapel Choir sing Evensong at St Paul's Cathedral

On Monday, the Girl Choristers and Chapel Choir had the wonderful opportunity of singing Evensong at St Paul’s Cathedral, London to a congregation of over 500.

On arrival, the pupils were shown to the Cathedral Song room and then enjoyed free time in the Cathedral.  For many choristers, this involved a visit to the famous Whispering Gallery.  The intrepid Year 5 probationers were determined to ascend to dizzier heights, and, along with the older choristers, enjoyed spectacular views of London from the top of the Dome.

Following their preparation for Evensong, the choristers processed into the magnificent Quire of the Cathedral. The first part of the rehearsal focused on projected sound into the huge space of the nave and dome. The choir sounded magnificent and it was a thrilling experience to hear the singing echo around the Cathedral for a further six seconds after the final note!  The service included canticles by Sumsion, the responses by Bernard Rose and the ubiquitous anthem Te Lucis ante terminum by Balfour-Gardiner. The Cathedral clergy commented on the high quality of the choral singing and the sensitive organ accompaniments by Mr Aspden.  A very large contingent of Parents and supporters had made the journey to London to be present for the service.  Many thanks for your support.
