Concerts and Events Michaelmas Term 2017

Our team of music teachers provide a fun presentation of orchestral instruments, boosting musical awareness and offering the chance to try something new.

Music Scholars from Years 7-13 give a late afternoon recital in the Roald Dahl Studio. Tea & biscuits served in the Jubilee Foyer at 4.30pm.

Dyfrig, Euddogwy and Teilo Houses compete head-to-head in one of the most impressive and exciting events of the School calendar. A stunning presentation of House Choir unison and a-cappella singing involving over 150 Senior pupils. Not to be missed! Admission by advance ticket only.

A relaxed concert of solo items, performed by our younger girls and boys in Years 3-6. Families and friends are warmly encouraged to support their children at this event. Junior pupils of all abilities are encouraged to participate.

An opportunity for Music Scholars to experience a professional symphony orchestra, and to broaden their awareness of classical music. Programme to include: Liszt, Mazeppa; Mussorgsky, Songs and Dances of Death; Shostakovich, October; and Scriabin, The Poem of Ecstasy.

HALF TERM (Thursday 21 October – Sunday 5 November)

TA very special performance opportunity for a selection of our finest soloists and chamber groups. Enjoy the beautiful acoustics of Llandaff Cathedral in a short concert of high quality classical music. Free admission. Retiring collection for Cathedral funds. All welcome.

Our family of Junior instrumental ensembles show off their hard work this term, led by our music staff. To include: Brassophonic, Sinfonietta, Guitar Ensemble, Flute Choir, Percussion Ensemble, Recorderama, and more!

Celebratory Choral Evensong of the Feast of St Cecilia, patron saint of musicians. Sung by the Girl Choristers. All welcome.

Involving over 170 pupils, including our 100-voice Senior Chamber Choir, this superb gala concert exhibits flagship instrumental and choral groups in a professional concert hall environment. Featuring John Rutter’s celebrated choral work, Magnificat, accompanied by professional chamber orchestra. Admission by advance ticket only.

Cathedral School pupils may take their music exams in the home environment of our Music Department.

Enjoy solo performances from senior pupils in Years 7-13, ranging from virtuoso piano works to woodwind, string and brass solos. The concert will also feature contributions from some of our specialist chamber ensembles.

The Girl Choristers give their annual festive concert at this magnificent city-centre church, accompanied by the acclaimed, Father Willis Organ. Free Admission - all welcome.

In partnership with Ely-based charty, Making Music Changing Lives (MMCL), the Girl Choristers perform Benjamin Britten’s celebrated ‘Ceremony of Carols’, with harp accompaniment.

Pupils from Years 3-6 lead the singing in a heart-warming service of Christmas music featuring, the Girl Scholars and Boy Choristers, together with Junior choirs and congregational school carols, marking the end of term for the Junior Section.

Following the traditional liturgy of Nine-Lessons-and-Carols, this magnificent service bring the term to a joyful conclusion. Featuring the Boy Choristers & Girl Choristers, accompanied by organ and combined CSL & RWCMD brass ensemble.
