Concerts and Events Michaelmas Term 2016

Our team of Visiting Music Teachers will provide a vivid presentation of the musical instruments available to learn, encouraging our children to consider trying out a new instrument.

Music Scholars enjoy an afternoon orchestral concert at BBC Hoddinott Hall, WMC. Conducted by Xian Zhang, and featuring violinist, Chloe Hanslip, music will include Tchaikovsky, Eugene Onegin – Polonaise; Samuel Barber, Violin Concerto; and Tchaikovsky, Symphony No. 4 in F minor.

Music Scholars give a short recital in the Music Department main classroom, taking advantage of the beautiful C3X Yamaha Grand Piano. Tea, coffee & biscuits served in the Jubilee Foyer at 4.30pm.

A very special performance opportunity for a selection of our finest soloists and chamber groups. Enjoy the beautiful acoustics of Llandaff Cathedral in a short concert of high quality classical music. Free admission. Retiring collection for Cathedral funds. All welcome.

Dyfrig, Euddogwy and Teilo Houses compete head-to-head in one of the most impressive and exciting events of the School calendar. A stunning presentation of House Choir unison and a-cappella singing involving over 150 Senior pupils. Not to be missed! Admission by advance ticket only.

HALF TERM (Thursday 20 October – Sunday 30 October)

The Choral Scholars (Girl Choristers) and Schola Cantorum give a liturgical performance of Duruflé’s sublime Requiem Mass, in the extraordinary acoustic and spiritual peace of St Martin-in-Roath (Albany Road).

Enjoy performances from pupil musicians in Years 7-11, ranging from virtuoso piano works to woodwind, string and brass solos. The concert will also feature contributions from some of our specialist chamber ensembles.

Junior ensemble groups demonstrate what they have been learning during the term, under the direction of our specialist music staff. To include: Camerata, Sinfonietta, Junior Guitar Ensemble, Junior Flute Choir, and many others.

Involving over 170 pupils, this superb gala concert exhibits our larger instrumental and choral groups in a professional concert hall environment. Featuring Howard Goodall’s Eternal Light, accompanied by professional chamber orchestra.

An informal concert of solo items, performed by our younger girls and boys in Years 3-6. Families and friends are warmly encouraged to support their children at this event. Junior children of all abilities are encouraged to participate.

Cathedral School pupils may take a range of music exams, all in the home environment of our Music Department.

Experience the high standards achieved by pupil bands in Years 10 & 11. Pupils receiving specialist coaching at school build to an impressive and professionally delivered experience.

The Choral Scholars give a festive, lunchtime concert at this magnificent city-centre church, accompanied by the acclaimed, Father Willis Organ. Free Admission - all welcome.

Following the traditional liturgy of Nine-Lessons-and-Carols, these magnificent cathedral services bring the term to a most joyful and uplifting conclusion.
Featuring the Boy Choristers, Choral Scholars, and Senior Chamber Choir, accompanied by organ and combined CSL & RWCMD brass ensemble.

Pupils from Years 3-6 lead the singing in a heartwarming service of Christmas music featuring the Choral Scholars and Boy Choristers, together with Junior choirs and congregational school carols , marking the end of term for the Junior Section.
