Insight into the United Nations

This week four sixth form students and two Year 11s participated in the Model UN Conference in Barry, where the participants were organised into groups representing the countries in the UN.

The Cathedral School embodied the US and Syria, where they debated the involvement of other countries in the on-going crisis in Syria. By lunchtime, many countries had raised amendments that contributed to reaching a final resolution to combat the crisis. In the second part of the day, the theme was ‘Climate Change' and the natural disasters caused by it. The Maldives and Philippines were the main focus, and they debated the contribution of aid provided by the UN and changes that could be made.

Well done to everyone involved.  They came away from this fantastic experience with a profound insight into the mechanisms of the United Nations.
