Over the lockdown period, a group of Lower Sixth students decided to begin a mentoring scheme to offer support and help to those in the Primary section. This scheme consists of one-to-one or weekly grouply calls with pupils from Reception to Year 5, during which a variety of topics are discussed and games are played. These include book quizzes, guessing games and story times. The scheme has been very popular with pupils, teachers and parents, and the four mentors involved have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We hope to find a way to carry on this mentoring scheme in the future and look at ways of allowing more interaction between the mentors and mentees. The mentors currently involved are Saiba A, Heath W, Nia B and Ellie H. Solutions Not Sides Solutions Not Sides is an education programme that exists to provide humanising encounters, diverse narratives and critical-thinking tools in order to empower young people with the knowledge, empathy and skills to promote dialogue and conflict resolution, and to challenge prejudice in the UK. The conflict in Israel and Palestine is never far away from the news headlines, even during the current COVID-19 crisis and so they are hosting a pair of Israeli and Palestinian speakers to deliver a criticalthinking focused workshop with a range of options and formats. Studying the conflict and hearing about it from the people who are most affected by it is a powerful way to engage in important criticalthinking and empathy-building skills. If you are interested in participating in this workshop please let Mrs EllisOwen know via email. Thank you to all the enthusiastic children in the Primary section, the teachers, and the parents who have helped coordinate this scheme. I have found speaking to the younger pupils really fun and I have a learnt a lot about a range of topics - from David Walliams to Batman! Saiba A, Lower Sixth
