Girl Choristers enjoy Masterclass at Cambridge

Every year, upwards of six million people world-wide tune in to hear the choir of King's College, Cambridge perform its annual service of Nine Lessons and Carols. On Friday 5th February the Girl Choristers had a personal audience with Stephen Cleobury, the Director of Music at Kings, attended a rehearsal and had seating reserved for Evensong. As if that wasn't enough: they had a masterclass with the inspirational conductor Tim Brown, Director of Music at Clare College, Cambridge. They sang Evensong with the Altos, Tenors and Basses of Clare College's world-famous Chapel Choir.

The girls sang some of the most beautiful and moving music of the repertoire, and took along a piece written in Welsh: Dechrau Canu, Dechrau Canmol composed by a Lay-Clerk at Canterbury Cathedral.  Ms Gordon-Smith, Mrs Lewis, Mr. Lovell-Jones and organist, Mr Bull accompanied them as they undertook the choral trip of a lifetime!

And there may be more ... Stephen Cleobury has offered to give the Girl Choristers a masterclass in the future, which would mean Llandaff Cathedral Girl Choristers singing in the unique building of King's College Chapel itself.  The Girls Choristers continue to go from strength to strength, and there is no doubt that this experience will have a lasting effect on the quality of their music-making and their contribution to the liturgical music at Llandaff
