Top GCSE Awards for Cathedral School pupils

The Cathedral School is delighted to announce that the Edexcel Examinations Board has written to three Cathedral School pupils to congratulate them upon being amongst the top ten pupils of 36,294 nationally in Art & Design GCSE, to another three Cathedral School pupils to congratulate them upon being amongst the top ten of 94,361 nationally in Religious Studies, and to one pupil who came amongst the top ten of 909 candidates nationally in Art & Design (Short Course) GCSE.

Headmaster Stephen Morris commented: "I am thrilled for the young people concerned, and for their teachers. So much hard work has been invested by them and it is splendid to have such an extraordinary record of top achievement from one cohort of only 60 pupils at the Cathedral School. For any school to scoop one of these awards is an honour; to scoop seven at once is unheard of!"

For 2008, the Cathedral School was ranked once again by both the Times and the Daily Telegraph as the top achieving co-educational school in Wales at GCSE, and one of the leading co-educational schools in the UK as a whole. All pupils achieved the government's benchmark of 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C, with 68% of all entries being graded at A* or A. Both boys and girls achieved the same level of distinction in terms of the top grades.
