Battle of the Bands

The first half of term ended with a bang as we celebrated Battle of the Bands, which displayed the enormous musical talent and independence that lie within the hearts of our pupils and students.

First up was the Dyfrig band, putting their all into action packed versions of Tee-shirt weather by Circa Waves and the new classic R U Mine? by the Arctic Monkeys. A particular highlight was the moment when all band members jumped at the same time, causing a shock wave to reverberate through the whole DS floor. The rock craftsmanship behind all the exuberance was truly impressive. Very well done Shivansh A, Nathan C, Rayan N, Jaydan T, Danyal M, Tommy S and Neel B.

Then came the Euddogwy Band, with a much younger average age, who gave very thoughtful renditions of Bruno Mars’s Treasure and the Beatles’ Day Tripper. There was great communication between the band members, with soaring guitar and spot on vocals sitting comfortably on top of a rock-solid rhythm section. A big thank you goes to: Owen H, Sujay O, Vihaan J, Luke W, Ayush M.

The evening came to a close with a super diverse show from the Teilo band. This featured boys and girls from Year 7 to 13, with almost all the years in between represented. There was a mixture of high energy and ultra cool performances, and the two songs they chose – Bowie’s Heroes and Kiss’s I love it loud - proved to be a perfect medium for highlighting their talents. Oliver P’s vocal performance was once again superb, and Ashley R’s drum sound was singled out by the judge for its accuracy and power.Well done to Brigitta S, Bernadette M, Charlotte L, George H, Oliver P, Ashley R, Katie A and Anna R-M.

Our judge, Steve Rajam, gave excellent feedback on the videos, and explained how he reached his difficult decision: all three houses did extremely well, with Euddogwy’s musicality scoring highly, but being outdone by Dyfrig’s power and energy, but first place went to Teilo for the richness and variety of their sound!
