Broadening Horizons
28 April 2025
The past few weeks have seen a series of trips take place across cohorts:
- At the start of the Easter break, 40 Year 7 pupils travelled to Belfast for an action-packed multi-sports tour. With fixtures in netball, football, hockey and rugby, pupils demonstrated determination, teamwork and great sportsmanship. Alongside the sporting schedule, the group enjoyed visits to the Titanic Museum, Giant’s Causeway and other cultural highlights, gaining insight into the city’s history and heritage. Pupils represented the School with pride, both on and off the pitch.
- Later in the holidays, 54 Year 8 pupils enjoyed an opportunity to immerse themselves in Spanish language and culture during a visit to Madrid. Highlights included a thought-provoking tour of Las Ventas bullring, a flamenco dance workshop, and a visit to the Museo Reina Sofía, where they viewed Picasso’s Guernica. Pupils also practised their conversational Spanish in cafés, enjoyed the outdoors at Parque del Buen Retiro and took in the sunset at the Temple of Debod.
- To kick off their Summer term learning, Year 6 pupils visited the Senedd in Cardiff Bay, where the focus was on sustainability and civic engagement. They explored the eco-friendly features of the building, from geothermal heating to rainwater harvesting, and gained a deeper understanding of how laws are made in Wales. A mock debate on environmental policy helped develop pupils’ confidence, public speaking and critical thinking skills, highlighting the importance of young voices in shaping the future.
Whether exploring political processes, stepping onto the international sports stage or immersing themselves in different cultures, trips like these inspire curiosity, build confidence and help our pupils develop as informed, engaged citizens of the world.
