Cathedral School are Welsh Schools' Chess Championships 2013

A terrific performance from a team comprising Karanvir L-S, Aishwarya L-S, Sam T and Harri L helped the Cathedral School to victory at the Welsh Schools' Championships on Saturday.

The team, supported by Team Manager Mr Payne and many parents, saw off the challenge of Howell's School and The Grange of Monmouth to win the Primary Schools' trophy in style.

Meanwhile in the Primary Schools' Minor section - for B teams - the Cathedral B team took no prisoners in winning the trophy by a country mile, ahead of twenty-two other schools. Led from the front by Callum McG-J, the team included Sam S, Abhishek D and Ben P. The Cathedral C team of Thai C, Simeon A, Dominik L-S and Nojan C came fifth in this section.  While a very young development D team of Oliver P, Yuvi S, Marcus T and Harry C also had a great day, coming tenth.

Coach Kevin Thomas said today: "These results are outstanding and they underline the strength of depth at the Cathedral School. I am hugely grateful to the parents for bringing the children and for their on-going support. A special well done to Karanvir, Callum and Ben for winning all six games that they each played."

Karanvir and Aishwarya have been selected to represent Wales at the 2013 World Youth Chess Championships, in the United Arab Emirates in December. A fantastic achievement.
