Cathedral School secures excellence at A Level once again

The Cathedral School continues its track record for outstanding results at A level, with its Year 13 students achieving 46% of all grades at A*-A and 73% at A*-B, securing places at the most competitive universities.

Once again, the most common grade was A, with 25% of students achieving exclusively A*/A grades; a wonderful achievement. The overall pass rate was 100%.

A third of students achieved three A grades or better. Almost a third of our cohort took the highly regarded Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), securing an outstanding 100% A*/A grades. Five students will progress to read Medicine and one to read Dentistry.

Dariyan K secured the highest possible results with 4 A* in Computing, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics and will read Mathematics at Imperial College. A former Brazilian Jiujitsu European Champion Silver medal winner, Dariyan said: “I am so happy with my results. It was definitely worth all of the hard work and hours of revision!

“The Cathedral School has given me so many opportunities to enjoy my studies and supported me when I have taken part in Brazilian Jiujitsu competitions. The teachers have really gone the extra mile to prepare us for our exams and for life at university.”

Dylan Z, a founder member of the Cathedral School’s STEM Society (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) will read Medicine at Oxford.

Other top performers, scoring exclusively A* and A grades, include former choristers, Head Girl, Olivia C-H, who will read Medicine at Cardiff, Eve H who will study Biomedical Engineering at Glasgow and Charles P who will study Aeronautical Engineering at Imperial College. Charles’ sister, Lorna was part of the Cathedral School’s first sixth form cohort and has recently graduated with a First from Cambridge in Medieval and Modern Languages.

Head Boy, Thomas J will read Economics at Exeter; Wales Hockey U18 player, Jessica H will study Medicine at Nottingham; Rachel B will study Medicine at Sheffield; Charlotte B will read Dentistry at Cardiff and Paige R will study Midwifery.

Nadia VDG, who won the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama’s Concerto Competition last year took a gap year and has secured a place to read Veterinary Science at Bristol.

Mrs Clare Sherwood, Head of the Cathedral School said: “We are absolutely thrilled that our students have achieved such outstanding results, which is down to their hard work and the excellent teaching at the Cathedral School. Once again, the results are very strong across a wide range of subjects. This was recognised in our recent Estyn inspection with pupils’ performance at A Level over the last three years highlighted as “outstanding”.

“The Cathedral School sixth form offers excellent facilities and teaching, combined with outstanding pastoral care and a breadth of co-curricular opportunities, especially in music, sport and the arts. This is a fantastic year group who have shown leadership, positivity and commitment throughout their time here and we wish them all the very best as they take their next step on their educational journey.”

The School will host an Open Morning on Saturday 5^th October 2019 for Nursery to Sixth Form, followed by a Sixth Form Options Evening on Thursday 10^th October 2019.
