FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge

FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge

A talented team of Senior and Junior pupils have triumphed in the FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge, winning both Best Robot Performance and the title of Regional Champions.

Competing as Seals in Suits, the team - comprised of Aaruni B (Year 9), Alex B (Year 9), Jishnu B (Year 6), Georgia B (Year 8), and four pupils from local schools - have been preparing for this challenge since September. The project required them to:

  • Design and build a LEGO® robot fitted with sensors.
  • Code the robot using Pybricks (a Python programming platform) to complete complex tasks on a themed challenge mat, spending over 100 hours perfecting their algorithms.
  • Research and develop an innovative solution to a real-world problem linked to this year’s theme: Our Oceans. Their project focused on using spectrophotometry to monitor water pollution.

Throughout their journey, the team made use of our Design & Technology Department’s 3D printers, which were generously sponsored by the Friends, to create a prototype of their spectrophotometer.

Their hard work and collaboration paid off at the regional event, where they impressed judges not only with their technical expertise but also with their teamwork and problem-solving skills. As they now prepare for the National Finals in Harrogate this May, we wish Seals in Suits the very best of luck!
