Girl Choristers visit Cambridge

Last weekend, the Girl Choristers travelled to Cambridge, where they were joined by the Schola Cantorum at Gonville & Caius College to sing Evensong.  The College Director of Music, Dr Geoffrey Webber, spoke to the choir and the many parents present about the Chapel music tradition and some of the notable architectural features of the college.  Old Llandavian and former Canon's Scholar, Lorna P, studies at Caius and sings with the Chapel Choir there.

Following Evensong, led by Father Wayne, the Choristers processed from Gonville & Caius College through the main street to the entrance of King's College.  After some photos in the iconic setting of the college grounds, the Choristers entered the world-famous chapel of King's College where they performed music composed for the chapel to parental supporters and the College Director of Music, Mr Stephen Cleobury.  Mr Aspden thrilled the choir with his wonderful accompaniments, demonstrating the superb organ of the chapel.  The Choristers also sang the first verse of "Once in Royal David's City", usually associated with the opening of the Nine Lessons and Carols service broadcast from King's College Chapel.  The choristers thoroughly enjoyed singing in the vast acoustic and grateful that they had been given this opportunity to sing in such a famous building, a privilege which is rarely granted!

Saturday morning afforded the girls a more leisurely approach. They took a punting trip which allowed the girls to view the various landmarks of Cambridge before heading back to Llandaff.
