Penrhys Pilgrimage Planting

Penrhys Pilgrimage Planting

It was delightful to see the majority of our Primary pupils leaving the school grounds today armed with wellies and trowels, ready to make their mark by planting snowdrops along the ancient route of one of the most important pilgrimages in Wales - from Llandaff Cathedral to the Holy Well at Our Lady of Penrhys in the Rhondda Valley.

Over the years, the route has fallen out of use and parts are in disrepair. Collectively with all the communities along the route, we aim to enhance the beauty of the walk, with school children planting herbs and flowers that would have been familiar to the medieval pilgrims.  Our pupils thoroughly enjoyed the experience and it was lovely to see our younger and older pupils working together to plant their snowdrops.

We look forward to revisiting our planting spot in the weeks, months and years to come to see how our contribution is developing.
