Reflective trip to Normandy for Year 6

On Tuesday 18th October, 37 pupils from Year 6, together with their French teacher, Mlle Dawson and five additional members of staff, left in the early hours of the morning for their annual trip to Normandy. As always, this proved to be a huge success. On the first day, pupils visited Bayeux market, its cathedral, the famous tapestry and the British War cemetery. The following day included a visit to the cinema at Arromanches, the American War cemetery and the Pegasus Bridge museum. The final day concluded with a visit to the German war cemetery as well as a walk around the ramparts of Caen castle.

Mercifully, both ferry crossings were calm and staff were complimented on the excellent behaviour of our pupils. Both pupils and staff had great fun with each evening’s entertainment, which included a treasure hunt and a disco.

Many thanks to Madame Howells who organised the trip abroad and to all my colleagues who also accompanied the children, namely Mr Harper, Mr Cummins, Miss Dawson, Miss Sanders and Mrs Page. There is no doubt that this visit will long live in the memory of the children due to its poignant nature and both educational and social value. Well done, everyone!
