Having won the Theatr Iolo scriptwriting competition for the U17’s category back in October, Year 9’s Faaris A has experienced his directional debut! Initially meant to be performed at The Sherman Theatre for the general public, the uncertainties surrounding when that could happen due to the pandemic meant that Faaris’ script was recorded for a radio podcast audience instead. Joining Theatr Iolo’s director, sound technician, safety consultant and four professional actors last Friday, Faaris spent a mammoth four hours online, with no breaks, transforming his winning script - Two World’s, One Meal. Finding it very humbling to be given the respect and opportunity to engage in every part of the production process, he gave the team and actors continuous feedback throughout, displaying maturity, confidence and respect. The Theatr Iolo team have been very encouraging throughout and this has given Faaris a renewed sense of vigour and he hopes to apply all that he has learned so far to future work. Well done!
