The Cathedral School Interact Club, linked with the Rotary Club, is run by sixth formers who organise fundraising events throughout the year for their chosen charities. In just one term, the group raised a phenomenal £2,500. Events have included plate smashing and face painting at the Christmas Fayre, a Jazz and Curry evening, a cake sale and delivering red roses throughout the school on Valentine’s Day. As well as providing an opportunity to support local initiatives, Interact has helped students develop their organisational and leadership skills.
Alongside Interact, a group of sixth formers worked together to raise money for Leaves of Hope, a charity that aims to improve the lifestyle of Belarusian orphans. Their efforts culminated in an expedition to Belarus, where the students volunteered for ten days in Zhodino Orphanage. It was an incredibly emotional trip, with memories that will stay with them forever.
“The emotional struggles and the harsh reality that the children live in will always stay with us. However, it will not take away from the happiness and the connection we made with the children, the smiles, laughs and hugs, despite the language barrier.” Nicole SC
