YEAR 11 PUPILS CELEBRATE FANTASTIC GCSE RESULTS

Following the success of last week’s A Level results, pupils at The Cathedral School, Llandaff are celebrating another excellent set of GCSE results with 80% of all grades at 9-6 (England Pathway – equivalent to A**-B) and 98% of all grades at 9-4 (A**-C).  

11 pupils achieved eight or more grades at 8 or above (A*/A**) including Wales Cross Country Champion (U17 & U20), Bryony B, Top of the Bench Chemistry national finalists, Henry L and Ayesha P, former choristers, David L and Anna N, netballer, Sophie B, linguists, Felix J and Emilia M, Welsh Champion in Equestrian Vaulting, Catrin VO, cricketer, Tanay G and rugby player, Josh I.  

Catrin VO, who will join the Cathedral School Sixth Form to study Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Psychology said: “I am thrilled with my results. They reflect not only my hard work and determination but also the outstanding teaching and support provided by the staff at CSL. I am excited to continue my A Levels at the School and build on these achievements over the next two years." 

David L, will study Biology, Chemistry, History and Mathematics, also at the School’s Sixth Form added: “I am really happy with my results and incredibly grateful for the support I have received from my teachers. Their expertise, encouragement, and commitment have played a huge part in helping me achieve my goals. I am looking forward to continuing my studies at CSL and starting my A Levels." 

Head of The Cathedral School, Mrs Clare Sherwood said: “I am incredibly proud of our pupils for their academic results across such a wide range of subjects, from the creative arts to the sciences, as well as their achievements beyond the classroom.  In addition to their academic studies, they are a caring and fun year group involved in lots of different activities. In particular, they excel on the sports field with representation for Wales Hockey, GB Cycling, Welsh Cross Country and Glamorgan and England Cricket.  

"Following the School’s continued success at A Level last week which places us as the top independent school in Wales, we are all absolutely delighted that Year 11 have done so well which is testament to their hard work and the excellent teaching at the Cathedral School. 

“It will be wonderful to welcome our new Year 12 students, including those joining us from other schools who are attracted by excellent results, small class sizes, extensive co-curricular opportunities, strong emphasis upon preparation for top universities, and supportive pastoral care.” 

This year, the School’s A Level students have progressed to the most selective and sought after universities, including Oxford, Cambridge, London School of Economics, Exeter, Cardiff, Durham, Warwick, Imperial College and St Andrews with success in a wide range of fields from medicine to history, economics to engineering and music to natural sciences.
