On Monday we held the first virtual Big Science Assembly which was broadcast to all of the Junior classes live from the Junior science lab.
Our most recent question was, “Why do some people get hay fever?”. Thank you to all of the pupils who emailed in their excellent answers this month. The winning answer came from, Anna N in 6H - well done. Her excellent answer is now on display in the Junior lab and on Junior Firefly via https://cathedral-junior.fireflycloud.net/big-science-question-homepage/last-months-bsq-and-a.
Thank you to all of the pupils who put their questions into the Question Box this month, in particular, Harri T and Bryony B, who each put in lots of excellent questions. In the present circumstances it is not surprising I received lots of questions about viruses and illness. The very topical question I did choose was submitted by, Bryony B asking “How do vaccinations work?”.
I would also like to remind everyone about the BSQ video challenge. In this, the pupils make a short (< 45sec) video of something they have observed in the world around them that has made them curious about what was happening and why it was happening. This month’s winner came from Hattie L, in Year 4. Her video was a time lapse film of her very successful attempt to grow a pumpkin from a seed. Well done, Hattie. I look forward to receiving more videos over the next month. Mr Harper
