46 Year 11 pupils set off for Dale, in Pembrokeshire, on Friday last week to embark upon a tiring, but rewarding and worthwhile Biology field trip. Pupils spent the weekend learning techniques for sampling and collecting data on the rocky shore and studied species such as limpets, crabs, periwinkles and seaweed. Each person then chose a species they were particularly interested in to study in greater depth, and used the data collected to form part of their practice ISA. Shock ensued on the first evening when the pupils realised they would have to continue working on their projects well into the evening, and having to miss X-Factor on the Saturday to sit their ISA exam didn't go down well with some avid fans either! The Sunday made up for it however, as the pupils went crabbing off the pontoon on Dale beach. The sun was shining and the impromptu performance of the dancing scene from Mamma Mia was certainly a highlight!
Overall, an enjoyable and educational time was had by all. We hope to return to Dale next year, along with the Geography department.
