Bringing learning to life

This term, our Junior pupils have enjoyed wonderful opportunities that have brought their learning to life.

Year 4 had a wonderful time learning Batik at Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre. Inspired by their current topic, Flow, children created designs which echo the movement of water. Batik is a traditional fabric art where artists draw lines in wax before using dye to add powerful colours. The children produced amazing art and enjoyed exploring their topic through a new art form.

Year 5 began their new topic, Pits and Ponies, with an excellent introduction to the history of coal mining in South Wales by exploring the museum site of Big Pit. As part of their visit, they descended 90 metres below ground to the former working mine, where they were guided through the tunnels by experienced former miners, gaining a vivid and memorable insight into the conditions, challenges, and significance of coal mining in the region.

This week, Year 6 are enjoying an unforgettable trip to Normandy, where history is coming to life beyond the classroom. From exploring the beaches and memorials connected to the D-Day landings to discovering the rich culture and heritage of the region, pupils are gaining a deeper understanding of significant historical events while at the same time developing their independence and confidence. Thank you to the staff for accompanying the children and we look forward to hearing all about their trip next week

Look out for the gallery next week!
