On Saturday, Llandaff Cathedral was filled with music and memories as more than 30 former boy and girl choristers returned to sing at a special reunion evensong.
Singing together for the first time as a group, the music was incredibly moving and a reminder of the unique experience of being a chorister. It also showed just how deeply this tradition shapes lives, creating friendships and skills that last well beyond school years.
The afternoon was not only about music but also about community. Former choristers shared stories of their time at Llandaff, reconnected with old friends and celebrated the enduring spirit of the choir. Their enthusiasm has ensured that this reunion will now become an annual tradition with next year’s date set for Saturday 12th September.
Clare Sherwood, Head, said: “Our choristers have been at the heart of life in Llandaff for generations. Seeing so many return and sing alongside each other brought that history alive in the most special way. For our current choristers, it is an inspiring reminder of the lasting legacy they are part of - and of the exciting future of this unique tradition.”
Stephen Moore, Director of Music at Llandaff Cathedral, added: “It was wonderful to welcome so many former choristers back and to hear them sing together once again. The quality of music was remarkable, especially considering they had never sung as a group before. To see them doing what they used to do - singing together in the stalls of the Cathedral - was both moving and uplifting. It shows the impact that being a chorister can have for life.”
