Earlier this week, former Chief Inspector, Jon Williams and his company Crime Solvers, came into school to introduce the children to some aspects of forensic science via a fun and engaging 'whodunnit'.

The Year 6 cohort spent a morning and afternoon, on alternate days, carrying out an investigation of three crime scenes that had been set up in the School grounds. They then applied science techniques, team skills, observation and critical thinking skills to investigate the evidence and present a report, supported by evidence, on who was the guilty party.

Despite missing one or two pieces of vital evidence (Group 1!), the children put together the evidence and with a few outstanding insights by three or four of the children, successfully solved the crime. It was a dastardly gang in-fight between a group of loan sharks, ending up in a triple murder, a man hunt and a life sentence for the nasty Mr West. Many of our Year 6 pupil went home at the end of the day proudly wearing their CSI suits, all having had a very interesting two days.

This is what CI Williams had to say afterwards…

“Firstly, thank you for inviting me into the Cathedral School and allowing me to deliver workshops to your students. I hope that the two days met your needs and that the children benefited from the event. It was an immensely enjoyable experience for me. The children (indeed the whole school) was extremely welcoming and both classes were fantastic to  work with. They were knowledgeable and enthusiastic for the entire two days and great fun. Please pass on my thanks to them for their efforts and enthusiasm. They are a credit to you and the School.”
