Exploring Future Pathways in the Arts
GCSE and A Level Drama students enjoyed an inspiring and insightful visit to the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama to explore pathways into further education in the Arts.

From the moment they stepped into the stunning atrium—alive with the energy and creativity of student life—pupils were captivated by the vibrant atmosphere of this prestigious institution. They were welcomed into a workshop space where they heard from the Head of Design, alongside current students from the Costume Design and Musical Theatre courses. Together, they provided invaluable insight into course options, the application process, and what life is really like as a student at the College.

Pupils gained a deeper understanding of the wide range of performance and design opportunities available across theatre, television, and music. The sessions sparked curiosity and ambition, with our pupils asking thoughtful questions about the diverse pathways open to them in the creative industries.

“The tour was really inspirational and I found it so interesting to see all of the opportunities that I never knew about in the arts.” Lexi C
A guided tour of the exceptional facilities followed, offering a behind-the-scenes look at theatre spaces and busy workshop studios. It was a fantastic opportunity to see students in action—designing costumes, crafting props, and building scenic elements for both in-house productions and professional commercial projects. The visit also included the design exhibition, where completed work was proudly displayed. Our pupils were truly impressed by the extraordinary creativity, skill, and imagination on show.

“The trip was a wonderfully eye opening experience on the beauty and importance of the arts, helping us recognise how we can harbour our passion. I can truthfully say it’s been the most effective form of careers preparation I've had and I hope others will have the same opportunity the lovely Mrs Williams managed to make possible!” Grace B

An additional treat was bumping into Louis Villard (OL, 2012-2022), who is in his second year studying music composition. It was really lovely to see him and learn how much he is enjoying his studies.

It was clear that the experience broadened horizons and ignited aspirations, leaving our pupils excited about the many possibilities that lie ahead in their creative futures.

"The trip opened my eyes to what it would be like to take a creative route for higher education. I particularly enjoyed seeing all the intricate costumes that were made by hand and seeing how each department works together to put on a show." Brigitta S
