Former Archbishop of Canterbury Visits the Cathedral School

The Cathedral School was delighted to welcome Rt Revd Professor Rowan Williams, former Archbishop of Canterbury and one of the most respected Christian thinkers of our time, for a special visit to the School. 

Dr Williams preached at the Senior School Eucharist, offering pupils and staff the opportunity to hear from a renowned theologian, scholar and public intellectual whose influence extends far beyond the Church. Widely recognised for his distinguished academic career and contribution to public life, Dr Williams remains one of the leading voices in contemporary discussions surrounding faith, ethics and society. 

Following the Eucharist, Dr Williams met with our Year 11, 12 and 13 Scholars to deliver an exclusive address on the fascinating and increasingly significant theme of “Artificial Intelligence and Consciousness.” As advances in AI continue to shape the modern world, students had the rare opportunity to engage with profound questions about human identity, intelligence, creativity, morality and what it means to be conscious. 

The visit reflected The Cathedral School’s commitment to offering pupils experiences that extend beyond the classroom, encouraging them to engage with some of the most important intellectual, ethical and spiritual questions of our age. The chance to learn directly from a thinker of Lord Williams’ calibre was a privilege that few schools can offer and proved both inspiring and thought-provoking for all involved.
