Senior Open Morning
Wednesday 18 March 2026
Our termly Lunchtime Recital in Llandaff Cathedral offered a delightful mix of styles, delivered with confidence and musical sensitivity by ten of our Senior musicians. The concert opened with Schumann’sRomanze in F-sharp, Op. 28 No. 2, played with poise and warmth by Aidan B (Piano). Vihaan J (Guitar) brought rhythmic flair to Vincent Lindsey-Clark’sTango esta Noche, providing a striking contrast in colour and character.
Matthew C (Piano) offered a gentle and thoughtful interpretation of Komitas Vardapet’sShushiki, followed by a clear and profoundly expressive performance of Purcell’sMusic for a While from Anna N (Voice). Inessa R (Violin) gave a bright, articulate reading of the Prelude from J. S. Bach’sCello Suite No. 1 in G, BWV 1007.
Emily H (Voice) delivered Samuel Barber’sSure on this Shining Night with warmth and lyrical clarity, while George H (Violin) shaped Borowski’sAdoration with sincerity and refined tonal projection. Owen H’s selection from J. S. Bach’sGoldberg Variations, BWV 988 - including the Aria, Variation 1, Variation 7 and Variation 15 - was notable for its control, clarity, and stylistic nuance.
Emma N (Voice) brought charm and character to Mahler’sWer hat dies Liedlein erdacht?(fromDes Knaben Wunderhorn), before Annie A (Clarinet) closed the concert with a vibrant, assured performance of the Vivace from Brahms’s Clarinet Sonata No. 1 in F minor, Op. 120.
A well-rounded, polished and strikingly impressive concert, marked by musically aware interpretation and technical assurance, much-enjoyed by the audience. Well done to all our performers!
