Primary Eisteddfod

Primary Eisteddfod

Dydd Dewi Sant, had a slightly different feel this year, with us celebrating our Eisteddfod on Friday 9th March. That said, the change of date did not detract from the anticipation and excitement.

Pupils from Nursery to Year 2 flooded the Memorial Hall in their traditional Welsh dress, and surrounded by their wonderful artistic entries. The celebration was packed with singing, folk dancing, poetry recital, musical items and presentations. The entries to the class competitions were outstanding and it was an incredibly difficult job to judge the winners.

The event culminated in our intensely contested Year 2 bard competition, a showcase of poetry writing and presentation skills.   We were delighted to award the chairing of the bard this year to William M of 2J for his wonderful performance of his dragon poem.  A special mention is also given to Rio L and Sophie L for coming runners-up.

Across school in the RDS, it was wonderful to see the traditional sea of House colours as KS2 pupils donned our new House t-shirts. Cries of "Coombes", "Guys", "Vaughans" and "Wains" echoed around the room, creating an atmosphere of healthy House competition. It was lovely to see the array of competition entries that had been produced during the half-term holiday. All staff judges were greatly impressed by the individual competition entries, as well as the musical and poetry recital competition finalists that performed on the day itself.

Though the lead changed hands four times between all four houses, a huge congratulations go to Wains who eventually came out as winners.
