Senior Open Morning
Wednesday 19 March 2025
An unforgettable evening of Shakespearean monologues and duologues saw the school Chapel transformed into a captivating Elizabethan stage, illuminated by the soft glow of candlelight.
In preparation for the English Speaking Union Performing Shakespeare competition, pupils delivered stand-out performances to a captivated audience of parents, peers and members of staff.
Following a beguiling introduction by Libby B and Ayesha P - last year's semi-finalists - Molly D began the performances with a captivating portrayal of Hermia from A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Her portrayal was a perfect blend of fiery determination and heartfelt emotion. Comedy took centre stage with Libby B and Ayesha P’s creatively staged duologue from Twelfth Night, filling the chapel with laughter. Finn M and Aaruni B both captured Benedick’s lively character from Much Ado About Nothing, each offering a unique and compelling interpretation of the quick-witted bachelor. The audience was also treated to a moving selection from Romeo and Juliet; Matilda L and Agnes C beautifully showcased the warm and affectionate relationship between Juliet and the Nurse, while Sam W’s poignant portrayal of Romeo’s desperation over Juliet’s lifeless body in the final act left a lasting impression. The evening culminated in Elsie M’s enigmatic performance as Launce from Two Gentlemen of Verona, delighting the audience with her impeccable comedic delivery. Elsie will be attending the semi-finals in March and we all wish her the best of luck.
Exquisite musical and vocal solos punctuated the performances. Thank you to Molly D, Emily H, George H, Sylvie M, Anna N and Emma N for adding an extra layer of magic to the night.
