Last Saturday provided a fitting and memorable occasion to celebrate the achievements of our Senior sports teams, as well as to recognise the commitment, perseverance and contribution of students throughout their sporting journeys at CSL. The atmosphere throughout the evening reflected both pride and camaraderie, making it a truly special event for all involved.
We were delighted to welcome Professor Julia Longville (Dean of Teaching and Learning, Cardiff School of Education & Social Policy, Cardiff Metropolitan University) as our guest speaker. Her insightful and engaging address struck a chord with students and staff, offering valuable reflections on sport, dedication and personal development.
A particular highlight of the evening was hearing from our team captains, all of whom spoke with impressive maturity and confidence. Representing rugby were co-captains Charlie N and Patrick E, while Katie O’F and Sylvie MC spoke on behalf of hockey. This was accompanied by an impressive video created by Meg J. Football captain Henry J-J delivered a mature speech, alongside netball captain Isabella R and girls’ cricket captain Meg J. With the boys’ cricket captains Samuel M and Rhydian S unavailable, Eddie T stepped in admirably to represent the team.
Two major awards of the evening, which epitomise the spirit and values of CSL, were also presented. The NJP Award went to Henry T and Joe R, while the Maya Walker Award was presented to Timea T-T. Both awards recognised not only sporting achievement but also the character, commitment and ethos that define Cathedral School sport.
The evening concluded on a high note, with a lively raffle expertly conducted by Mr Ebrey and Mr Davies, before Mrs Sherwood brought proceedings to a close with her final words, rounding off a thoroughly enjoyable and meaningful celebration.
Overall, the Senior Sports Dinner was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on a year of dedication and success, and to honour the individuals who contribute so much to the sporting life of the school.
