The Complete Works of William Shakespeare

This week we were absolutely delighted to be able to welcome parents back on site to watch the Senior pupils take us on a raucous ride through the wonderful world of Shakespeare in the Senior production.Through many obstacles, not least Covid, the pupils rehearsed tirelessly to perfect the delivery of very complex language and a huge array of different famous moments.

The show was a satirical mash up of Shakespeare’s most famous works such as Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Hamlet and many others, and provided the audience with a new unique perspective on both Shakespeare’s most well loved and least known colourful characters. Two different casts performed – one from Y7-9, the other Y10-13 and all those involved put on stellar performances with impeccable comic timing and wonderful audience engagement throughout. It was brilliant to see the younger pupils rising to the challenge of performing such complex roles. The older cast likewise epitomised brilliantly, the often undetected hilarity that exists within Shakespeare’s tragedy plays, providing a creative and more 21^st century perspective on the characters’ antics. The audience revelled in the way the many narrators carried the show through a myriad of different times, locations and character interactions; with their seamless multirolling, the cast kept fabulous momentum despite the fast and frequent changes. From the intense Drama on the heath when Macbeth is killed by Macduff to the upbeat rap about Othello that had everyone in fits of laughter, it certainly was a show to remember! Huge congratulations to all who performed!
