Discovery Day
(Year 7 entry 2026 only)
Thursday 5 June 2025
Pupils in both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 enjoyed a fantastic week of literary inspiration at the Cardiff Children’s Literature Festival.
Held at the Reardon Smith Theatre in the National Museum Cardiff, the festival gave our pupils the rare chance to listen to acclaimed authors Sean Julian, Ben Davis, Jasbinder Bilan, Iszi Lawrence and Maz Evans.
Throughout the week, our pupils were enthralled by lively readings, interactive storytelling and creative activities. From laugh-out-loud safari adventures and ancient tombs filled with mystery to magical family tales and mythological escapades, each event offered a glimpse into the world of professional writers and the stories that shape their work.
The children found the author sessions both entertaining and inspiring. Many pupils came away buzzing with excitement, full of ideas for their own stories and eager to dive into new books. Opportunities like these - where children engage directly with storytellers - are powerful reminders of the joy and value of reading.
These events also align perfectly with our Page-by-Page reading initiative which seeks to instil a lifelong love of reading in every child. Whether it’s fostering creativity, building vocabulary or simply offering escapism and joy, the benefits of reading are immeasurable.

We are enormously grateful to the Cardiff Children’s Literature Festival for offering such enriching and imaginative sessions. Our pupils were incredibly fortunate to attend and we look forward to seeing their enthusiasm for reading flourish.
