Cathedral School secures excellence at A level once again

The Cathedral School continues its track record for outstanding results at A level, with its students achieving 58% of all grades at A*-A and 77% at A*-B, securing places at the most competitive universities.

Once again, the most common grade was A, with more than 1 in 5 of all grades gained at A*; a wonderful achievement. The overall pass rate was 100%.

More than a third of students achieved exclusively A*/A grades, including Head Boy, Samuel B and Millie S who both secured the highest possible results of 4 A* grades and, Deputy Head Boy, Prakrit P who will progress to Christ Church, Oxford to read Medicine.

Samuel, who studied Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Further Mathematics and has received offers from Durham and Exeter to study Physics said: “I am absolutely thrilled with my results. It was definitely worth all of the hard work and I am so pleased that we have all done so well.

“I have been at the Cathedral School since Nursery and even though it has gone through massive change, including the introduction of sixth form teaching, its ethos remains the same. The Cathedral School has given me so many opportunities to enjoy my studies, music and sport, as well as preparing me for life after A levels. It is a very special school.”

Other top performers, scoring exclusively A* and A grades, included Herb R, who will read Arts & Sciences at University College London; Jessica E, who will study Medicine at Nottingham; Georgia R, who has been offered a place to read Biosciences at Durham; Daniel M who is holding a place at Bath to read Natural Sciences and Jessica H who will read Interior Design at De Montfort.

Mrs Clare Sherwood, Head said: “We are absolutely thrilled that our students have achieved such excellent results, which is down to their hard work and the excellent teaching at the Cathedral School. The results are very strong across a wide range of subjects. The top grades of A*/A were gained by all pupils taking Art and DT, 82% in Mathematics and over two thirds across the Humanities.

“Over a third of our cohort took the highly regarded Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) with the notable return of 86% A*/A. This challenging course of study, requiring high quality independent thinking and research is much demanded by Russell Group universities and is a wonderful preparation for university study.

“The Cathedral School sixth form offers excellent facilities and teaching, combined with outstanding pastoral care and a breadth of co-curricular opportunities, especially in music, sport and the arts. Students have the opportunity to reach their full potential, both academically and personally, in a vibrant, fun and supportive environment. We wish our students every success as they take their next step on their educational journey.”

The School will host an Open Morning on Saturday 7th October 2017 for Nursery to Sixth Form, followed by a Sixth Form Options Evening on Thursday 12th October 2017.
