On Wednesday, nine Year 12 Chemistry students competed in the Royal Society of Chemistry 2018 Schools' Analyst Competition in Swansea University. Entering three teams of three, they competed against 29 other teams from different schools across Wales to see which team could analyse an unknown substance with greatest accuracy. Not only were they assessed on how close the value theycalculated was to the actual, they were also scored on their ability to follow the instructions, efficiency, and most importantly teamwork.
The teams were: Abhishek D, Archie B, and Tanya E; Matthew P, Bryn L, and Maya R, who came third overall; James B, Amber S, and Alexander R, who came second overall.
The students found it an incredible opportunity to be able to perform experiments in a professional laboratory, and to learn about the chemistry behind what they were undertaking to deepen their understanding of the field, as well as being all around a fantastic day out!
