Chorister Experience Day

25 January 2025
Chorister Experience Day

More than 20 children attended this year’s Chorister Experience Day at Llandaff Cathedral, offering a snapshot of the life of our choristers.

On arrival, children and their families were greeted by current choristers and their parents with everyone having the chance to design a chorister uniform or make their own chorister in a craft activity. Whilst the children enjoyed a treasure hunt around the Cathedral, Mr Moore gave a short presentation to parents to inform them of what the busy life of a chorister is like.

Back in the Cathedral, visitors enjoyed rhythm and movement games, helping them to integrate with the present choristers. Next, there was time to learn a few pieces of music to sing at Evensong before a well-deserved drinks break. In the choir stalls, over 60 voices joined together learning some of the choristers' favourite music. A large congregation of friends and family attended the service and were treated to some of the Cathedral choir’s most vibrant repertoire including Dyson’s fantastically exciting Magnificat in D and Philip Stopford’s beautiful anthem The Chorister Prayer.

Auditions for children interested in becoming a chorister in September 2025 will be held on Saturday 22nd March. Whether they attended the Chorister Experience Day or not, those who wish to be considered need to complete a Voice Trial Application form by Friday 7th March. These are available from the Registrar, Ms Whitehouse, and should be returned to her on completion. Further information about chorister places can be found here or by contacting Mr Moore via stephenmoore@llandaffcathedral.org.uk
