Choristers Begin the New Academic Year in Fine Voice

It has been great to welcome back all our choristers, who have been in excellent voice for the first services of the new academic year. We have lots of new Probationers amongst the boy choristers, with Kosi N, Joshua A, George W, Alexander W, and Dafydd P all joining their colleagues in the choir stalls. The first Sunday services of term were sung jointly by the girls and boys, marking a celebratory start to the year.  

We also welcomed this year’s team of senior choristers—our new Dean’s and Canon’s Scholars. Matthew W and Keziah H proudly continue the line of Dean’s Scholars stretching back to the 1880s, while Matthew C and Saskia K join them as our new Canon’s Scholars. 

Evensong on Sunday additionally marked the ‘making up’ of eight Probationers. Congratulations to Henry B, Michael D, Beatrix D, Ebah H, Eira J, Jordan K, Seren M, and Lottie P, who were all presented with their surplices and are now full choristers. 

The choir is looking forward to a busy year ahead, punctuated by many special events. In just a few weeks’ time, the girl choristers will continue their 30th-anniversary celebrations by singing services at St Davids Cathedral, joining forces with the St Davids girl choristers who are themselves celebrating 60 years. Looking further into October, the cathedral will fill with VIPs for two major National Services, before our attention turns toward Advent and Christmas. 

This coming weekend, we will welcome back former choristers from across the generations, who will join together for a special Reunion Evensong at 5.30pm on Saturday 12th September. It will be wonderful to reconnect and share reminiscences of time spent as a chorister and pupils). 

There are currently vacancies for girls in Years 4 to 6 to join the Cathedral Choir, although applications from other year groups are welcome. Interested families are encouraged to contact the school registrar@cathedral-school.co.uk or stephenmoore@llandaffcathedral.org.uk and visit the CSL website to find out more. In addition toour special seasonal events, the choristers sing regular weekday services at 5.30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, as well as Sunday services at 11.00am and 4.00pm. We look forward to another fantastic year of singing together.
