The Infant and Junior virtual Eisteddfodau were met with great enthusiasm on Monday. The Lodge was adorned with pupils wearing their traditional Welsh costumes, red rugby jerserys and yellow daffodils to celebrate Dydd Gwyl Dewi (St David’s Day). In the morning, Infants tuned in live to their Eisteddfod via Teams, broadcasting into each classroom. Some superb competition entries were received - from daffodil models and dragon collages, to photography and poetry – fantastic work by all! To conclude their Eisteddfod, the Year 2 bard finalists performed their very own poems and every Infant pupil had the opportunity to vote for their favourite presentation. Congratulations to Eddie M-H on receiving the Bard this year.
The Junior Eisteddfod took place in the afternoon; key worker children watched the presentation in their classrooms while the rest of the pupils joined in remotely from home. Despite not being physically together, it was wonderful to be able to see all of the entries for the photography and art competition, as well as celebrating the winners from each of the classes. They were also able to share the phenomenal winning musical performances for the instrumental and vocal events. Though Vaughans took a commanding early lead, with their final event of the Poetry Recital to go, it could not have been closer - only six points separated Vaughans and Coombes, and only 22 points separated first from fourth place. It was truly moving to listen to the winning performances from the Poetry Recital as pupils gave some emotive and expressive performances. Our afternoon culminated with the Bardic Shield competition, where our guest judge, Mrs Williams (Subject Leader, Drama), had the incredibly difficult job of selecting the winning performance from Grace M (5W), Eve R (5C), Chloe M (6R) and Jessica S (6H). Though all performances were superb, Jessica S was crowned the 2021 Bardic Shield recipient. A special mention must go to Chloe M who gave a moving performance of History Will Remember by signing the words whilst reciting the poem. Despite an amazing comeback from Guys and Wains, the finishing positions were as follows:
1st Place | Vaughans - 116 points |
2nd Place | Coombes - 110 points |
3rd Place | Guys - 102 points |
4th Place | Wains - 94 points |
As we always say, it comes down to the number of entries; and this year was no different. Vaughans won by just six points but had nine more entries overall than any other House. Remember that for next year everyone! Huge congratulations to Vaughans. When we return to school, we will have classroom presentations of our winners’ certificates and rosettes.
