As world CO2 levels rise, this midwinter looks the bleakest yet for the environment - but here at CSL we are doing our best to help.

Thanks to the work of Tim Williams and the ground staff, we have planted more than 680 saplings along the edge of the Bishop’s Field. We hope these will grow and develop into a new hedgerow, helping to make up for the many Cardiff has lost in recent years. These young trees have been over a year in the planning. The team met and consulted to identify the best native species, with a good mix of deciduous and ever-greens. Many thanks to Mrs Chambers and to Mrs Carbin for their advice - their thoughts have helped us assemble a shrub selection that should make the best possible contributions to the School’s biodiversity, as well as helping to make a healthier environment for us all.

The A48 has been identified as one of the most polluting roads in Wales. Hedgerows are really good at absorbing CO2 and filtering out particulates. They provide havens for wildlife including insects and birds. They will also form a screen and reduce noise from the traffic.

We all want to do whatever we can to help the environment, and we hope our pupils will be inspired by the way our ground staff and teachers have worked together and done something that can make a real difference for us all.
