Senior Open Morning
Wednesday 18 March 2026
Excitement is building for this year’s F1 in Schools STEM Racing Competition as five ambitious teams prepare to take to the track.
Pupils from Years 7-10 have been burning the midnight oil, perfecting their miniature race cars and refining their professional presentations. This prestigious competition is renowned for blending science, engineering, design and entrepreneurship, giving students a hands-on insight into what it truly takes to succeed in the world of Formula 1 — from initial concept to race-day performance.
With just under two weeks to go until race day, the pressure is on. Cars have been spray-painted, pit display boards rehearsed and refined, and marketing presentations now dominate team schedules as they prepare to impress the judges.
At the heart of the challenge lies precision engineering. Using CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software, teams design their cars digitally before manufacturing components with high-speed CNC machines or 3D printers. Every detail matters — aerodynamics, weight distribution, wheel alignment, and overall design all play a crucial role in delivering peak performance on the track.
Beyond engineering, the competition mirrors the real world of motorsport through sponsorship and finance. Each team is responsible for securing funding to cover materials, manufacturing, and event expenses. Pupils have confidently reached out to local businesses, engineering firms, and national brands to support their journey, developing valuable communication and entrepreneurial skills along the way.
As the teams drive off to the start line on Wednesday 25th February, they would like to extend their sincere thanks to the sponsors who have made race day possible:
We look forward to an exciting competition and wish all five teams the very best of luck!
