Festive Concert

Congratulations to all those who were involved in our Festive Concert this evening. Welcomed with mulled wine and mince pies, audience members were then treated to a range of easy-listening Christmas classics, performed by over 80 pupils, most of whom were bedecked with tinsel and Santa hats - a sight to behold! Senior Orchestra gave vibrant renditions of two colourful medleys: ‘Leroy Anderson Favourites' and ‘A Christmas Festival', also by Leroy Anderson. Sinfonia entertained with the rather comic, ‘Compressed Carols', followed by ‘Winter Wonderland'. Both orchestras sported around 40 players.

String Ensemble, under the direction of Mrs Blackman, gave a confident and well-rehearsed performance of ‘Troika' by Prokofiev. String Quartet, Senior Flute Choir and Trumpet Quartet also made festive contributions, highlights of which included ‘Jingle Bell Rock', ‘Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas' and ‘Festive Trumpets'. After a brilliant solo interlude from Year 11 baritone, Matthew W - singing American 1940s Christmas classics such as ‘It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas', our 24-piece Jazz Band concluded the concert in typically upbeat style with Big Band arrangements of  ‘Chestnuts Roasting' and ‘Jingle Bells'.
