House MasterChef success for Euddogwy

House MasterChef success for Euddogwy

A great culinary evening took place this week, with Mrs Patterson ensuring health and safety rules were observed as the three house teams frantically prepared their delicious offerings. We vary the ingredients available each year, and this year's list had a decidedly oriental twist, with lemongrass, coriander leaf and duck breast available.

Surprisingly, each house went for the duck as a starter and served plaice as the main.

Particularly impressive were James T's highly spiced plaice dish, Will L's fulsome take on "fish and chips", and Katie F's superbly presented slightly bitter orange desert.  Likewise Hanna D's reworking of the traditional duck à l'orange was a masterpiece. All the dishes were well presented, professionally approached and very enjoyable to taste.

But there must be a winning team, and we were delighted to welcome Mr Matt Beck, head chef with the Mulberrry Street restaurant in Llandaff village, as our judge this year.  His CV boasts positions as senior sous-chef in the Celtic Manor and head pastry chef in Cardiff Bay's St David's Hotel.  And Mr Beck, after mediation, cogitation and contemplation, finally awarded this year's cup to Euddogwy House.  Mr Beck said that what really swung it for them was Anuja's fantastic pastry, which he said would not have been out of place on the table of a top restaurant.

Teilo came second and Dyfrig, who had won this cup in every previous competition, were in third place.
