Cathedral School pupils were inspired by Tori James, the first Welsh woman to climb Everest and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Wales Ambassador this week.
Attending the School’s first Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) presentation evening, Tori outlined the determination and perseverance she had drawn upon to complete her climb, before presenting the students with their Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates.
Following a track record of success at Bronze and Silver levels, the Gold award was introduced when sixth form teaching began here in September 2013. With 70% of pupils in Years 11-13 participating in DofE programmes, we became a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Directly Licensed Centre last year and the scheme is delivered solely by Cathedral School staff.
