Nursery and Infant Open Morning
Wednesday 13 May 2026
The Lent Term Choral and Orchestral Concert in Llandaff Cathedral offered a rich and wide‑ranging showcase of the school’s musical life, featuring our larger choirs and ensembles.
The first half was an impressively varied instrumental programme, opened with style and energy by the Senior Orchestra’s Salute to the Big Bands. Chamber and ensemble performances followed, with enjoyable contributions from the Flute Choir, Cello Ensemble and Brass Ensemble, while Cathedral Strings brought the half to an exciting close with John Powell’s How to Train Your Dragon suite. Sinfonia gave an energised rendition of Lean on Me, and Chamber Quartet presented an outstandingly beautiful performance of Popper’s Requiem for Three Cellos and Piano.
The choral second half provided a thoughtful and beautifully contrasted musical selection. Chapel Choir (34-strong) sang with clarity, professionalism and musical sensitivity in ambitiously sophisticated repertoire by Lotti, Gjeilo, Stopford and Whitacre, with additional accompaniment provided by chamber organ and string quartet.
Following a harp duet interlude, Senior Chamber Choir (90-strong) demonstrated impressive expressive and technical range in works spanning Dowland, Coldplay and musical theatre, bring the concert to an uplifting conclusion.
Under the direction of Mr Philip Aspden (Director of Music) and the Visiting Music Team, the concert was confidently and professionally delivered throughout; warmly received by a large and appreciative audience. A recording of the concert is now available to enjoy on Soundcloud
