Outstanding Achievement For The Cathedral School’s First A Level Results

The Cathedral School’s first A Level results place the school amongst the best independent schools in the UK, with 85% of students achieving A*-B grades, securing places at the most competitive universities.

64% of all grades were A*/A, with over half of the cohort achieving exclusively A*/A grades. Almost a third of the grades were the coveted A* with an overall pass rate of 100%, outstanding results from the school’s first cohort.

Top performers, scoring A* and A grades, included Lorna Price, who will read Modern Languages at Cambridge and is taking up a choral scholarship, Nicole Singh-Clark and Alex Brown who will study Medicine at Edinburgh and Sheffield respectively and Waleed El-Geresy and Jake Maddocks who will read Engineering at Imperial College London and Southampton respectively.

In addition to Russell Group success, the school has also secured international success, with Kou Motobayashi studying International Studies at Sophia University in Tokyo.

With almost half of the cohort applying for STEM (Science, Technology, Mathematics and Engineering) courses, 84% of all grades in Maths and 100% of those in Further Maths were A*/A.

Headmaster Stephen Morris said: "These fantastic results vindicate our decision to introduce sixth form teaching at the Cathedral School two years ago. We are absolutely delighted that our students have done so well which is testament to their hard work and the excellent teaching at the school.

"Our bespoke sixth form, underpinned by a programme of specialist support, led by the Head of Sixth Form, Mrs Catrin Ellis Owen has provided the very best advice, guidance and support for all of our students across the full range of subjects we offer. Nurturing bright and hardworking students within an ambitious environment is what our sixth form is all about.

"As the Cathedral School sixth form pioneers, this year group has certainly had the spotlight on them throughout their time in Year 12 and 13 and are so deserving of these fantastic results. We wish them every success as they take their next step on their educational journey."
