This week the School held a World War I Day. The purpose behind the day was to commemorate the centenary of the war and the Cathedral School fallen, as well as to give pupils a greater understanding of the conflict.
There were many events organised for pupils in every year group and it was great to see so many pupils and staff dressed in clothing appropriate for the war years. These included talks by World War I experts, and role play sessions with actors playing World War I soldiers and nurses. The Infants building was transformed into a convalescent home and a field hospital tent was set up in the Sixth Form garden.
In the afternoon pupils in the Junior and Senior sections were entertained by a concert on the School field featuring the School orchestra and the band Trench Foot. Trench Foot sing songs and narrate stories about the Great War and despite the poor weather the event was enjoyed by all.
Pupils in Years 8 and 9 will be carrying out research into the Cathedral School pupils who died in the war as part of the curriculum next year and their findings will be published in a memorial book
