The RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch 2025

The RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch 2025
In an attempt to attract a variety of feathered friends, our Eco Schools Club and Science Club have been busy creating homemade bird feeders in the lead-up to the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch which takes over the weekend.

Using lard and assorted seeds, the pupils got hands-on mixing the ingredients. They then thread a string through paper cups and stuffed the cup with the seed mixture. The feeders were left to set before being hung around the school grounds, ready for bird-watching activities. A big thank you to Mr Reardon for leading this creative and eco-friendly project.

Meanwhile, Year 1 have been learning about the features of birds and learning fascinating facts such as not all winged creatures are birds, and not all birds can fly! They also walked around the school grounds spotting birds and creating tally charts of the different species they observed.

If you have some spare time this weekend, the RSPB is encouraging all nature lovers to participate in the Big Garden Birdwatch. Count the birds that visit your garden between the 24th and 26th of January and record your findings on their website. It’s a great way to connect with nature and support bird conservation efforts.
