Top class soprano judges house singing competition

The Senior Section's three houses went head to head recently in one of the most popular events on the School calendar.

Themed on Songs from Disney films, the three houses - Dyfrig, Euddogwy and Teilo, named after the Llandaff Saints - wowed the audience at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama's stunning new venue with a mix of House Choir Unison songs and A Capella performances from more than 100 pupils.

Hits from productions including Tarzan, Mulan and Hercules were judged by Gail Pearson, one of the UK's most respected and experienced sopranos.  Having worked with the English, Welsh and Scottish National Operas, the quality of singing was certainly going to come under serious scrutiny.

Judged against six criteria, with only a few points separating all three houses, Teilo were announced as this year's winners, followed closely in second place by Euddogwy and Dyfrig in third.

Gail Pearson said: "The evening was so enjoyable - well done to everyone! Music making is the most amazing gift and it was a pleasure to see so many young people singing and enjoying themselves on stage.  The standard was extremely high, making my job as judge very difficult!"

Headmaster Mr Stephen Morris added: "Rehearsal has been intense this term and with 175 house points at stake, the pupils and staff really put their hearts and souls into making this such a fantastic evening!"
