TOP IN WALES FOR GCSE RESULTS, 2013

The newspaper league tables, published 30 August, confirmed the Cathedral School as the top school in Wales for GCSEs. The Western Mail pointed to CSL pupils as gaining the greatest number of GCSE points per candidate, an average of 553 points (followed by Howells Girls’ School at 523). (The average point score is calculated per pupil at GCSE using the National Qualification Framework tariff, whereby an A* = 58 points, A = 52, B = 46, C = 40)

The Times and the Daily Telegraph also calculated CSL to be, by some margin, the highest performing co-educational school in Wales in terms of A*/A grades.

CSL is top co-educational school in Wales for GCSE, once again (as in 2011 and 2012)

CSL is top of all schools in Wales for number of Points Per Candidate (PPC) at GCSE; our pupils take and pass more GCSEs than other schools, a wide portfolio of academic subjects

CSL is second top in Wales (after Monmouth Girls) for percentage of pupils gaining the top grades, A*/A/B, at 94.2%

Particularly outstanding results in IGCSE Science (International GCSE, chosen for its greater rigour and better preparation for A level), 82% A*/A grades

Stephen Morris, Headmaster, writes; “We are delighted that Cathedral School pupils have topped the GCSE table in Wales for the amount of GCSE points per candidate, and topped the table in terms of mixed-sex cohort on every measure. 94% of grades at A*/A/B is outstanding, and not achieved at the expense of a rich musical and cultural life, competitive sport or busy social calendar, all of which complement these super results. Congratulations to our pupils, their parents and teachers. Our sixth form begins this term and is off to the best possible start!”
