World Book Day is always fantastic fun at CSL and the sight of pupils and staff dressed up as book characters made it clear that this year was to be no different.
Marking World Book Day with an assembly which was introduced by Long John Silver himself (Mr Hemley), pupils enjoyed a Year 6 video in which they spoke of their favourite books, gave their ‘top tips’ for reading, and released this year’s Around the World in 80 Books reading challenge. The smiles, laughter and clapping made it clear that the film had been a huge success. What an incredible job Year 6 pupils did!
It was not just the fancy dress and assembly that had pupils excited, though, for World Book Day also saw a host of other fun book-based activities. Enjoying quizzes, ’book-bistros’, and a carousel of inspiring workshops, everywhere you turned children were happily engrossed in the world of books.
We were fortunate to welcome highly acclaimed author Chitra Soundar and our very own pupils Louise G and Janvi P who have both published their own books. Pupils listened attentively and participated actively in the sessions. Miss Carbin’s illustrating workshop was also a huge hit, introducing the children to the world of comic books, setting them fun and engaging tasks that many are still working on. If the questions and work were anything to go by, I think we might have more than a few budding authors and illustrators on our hands.
Both teachers and pupils enjoyed the day massively! Bring on World Book Day 2024!
