World Book Day

06 March 2025
World Book Day

World Book Day was a magical celebration of books, stories and the joy of reading.

Primary pupils and staff embraced the occasion, dressing up as their favourite book characters and bringing the school to life with a vibrant array of costumes. The school buzzed with book-based activities, including quizzes, a BBC live lesson, book cover design and plenty of reading and writing.

A highlight of the day was the inspiring author and illustrator visits. KS2 enjoyed a wonderful talk from Emilie Lauren Jones, author of A Poetic A-Z of Awesome Animals, who brought poetry to life and encouraged pupils to write and perform their own verses. Meanwhile, KS1 were delighted to meet illustrator Jenna Herman, whose picture books, including We Are Family, inspired smiles and creativity. Her sessions gave pupils insight into the artistic process, sparking their own storytelling through illustration.

In the afternoon, Year 6 pupils did a fantastic job of leading a themed assembly, sharing reading tips and introducing this year’s reading challenge - Journey Through Time. They also launched our Page-by-Page campaign, an initiative designed to help pupils discover the joy of books in fun and immersive ways, reinforcing the message that reading fuels imagination, nurtures creativity and lays the foundation for success.

CSL parents can find more information on the importance of reading and how you can help to support your child’s reading journey at home on our dedicated Firefly page: Harnessing the Power of Reading.
