The 1st XI faced a challenging but memorable encounter in their annual fixture against Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).
The Bishop’s Field, expertly prepared by our Premise Team, offered an excellent batting surface. MCC lost two early wickets, but a fourth-wicket partnership put them in a strong position. Just as they looked set to accelerate, CSL responded with a strong spell of economical bowling. Sam M, Adam S, Jack G and Ayush M all helped to slow the run rate and apply pressure by claiming four wickets.
In reply, CSL kept pace with the required run rate, but regular wickets hampered their momentum. Despite the challenge, there were flashes of excellent striking from Sam C and Charlie M, who led the charge with determination.
It was also a pleasure to welcome back two Old Llandavians, Charles Griffith (OL, 2003–2016) and Andrew Leering (OL, 2004–2009) as players for MCC. While the result didn’t go CSL’s way, it was a fine occasion played in great spirit, and a day well spent in the glorious sunshine.
